The mower deck or housing is the central part for lawn mowing. It can have several widths 76 cm (30 inches), 82 cm (32 inches), 92 cm (36 inches), 96 cm (38 inches), 102 cm (40 inches) or 107 cm (42 inches). Some go down to 66 cm for small rear-engine tractors and can go up to 122 cm for twin-cylinder engine tractors. These decks are designed to work either as side discharge (opening on the side of the deck), rear discharge (with or without collection bag) or mulching (the cut grass stays in the deck and is redeposited on the ground in small pieces). You will choose your blades also according to the desired work; a high-lift blade will be preferred to a mulching blade in the case of mowing with collection.
